Jeankids take the day off.
We made the big mistake in Hexham of assuming that the Jeankids would be bored silly. Since we wanted to make sure that we could enjoy what the town had to offer without having to listen to the whines, whinges and moans of boredom from teenagers confronted with history and the opportunity to learn. We therefore thought that we would fob them off for a while on unsuspecting friends who had foolishly volunteered to take them to Tyne Park for the afternoon while we looked around. Of course, we had no way of knowing that the man at the museum would be friendly enough to put Mom in the stocks and also to let her try on the heavy armoured battledress helmet. Nor did we know that there was an active and full DUNGEON exhibit that our macabre kids would have found absolutely thrilling. When we showed them our pictures and told them what we had done for the afternoon they were almost lvivd that they had missed such fun as seeing their own mother in stocks for the entire town to jeer at, and they made us promise to return to Hexham SOON!!
Their disappointment was somewhat assuaged by the fact that apparently Tyne Park in Hexham has one of the best rides that these much travelled kids have ever been on - and they've been to "Six Flags over Texas" Their description left quite a bit to the imagination but it apparently involved a large tire on a wire/rope that one sat beneath on a seat and then rode between two tall columns from one elevated platform to the other and back again. They claimed to have completely monopolized the ride and also had thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of our friend's young children. I think that the break from the torment of appearing to be interested at old dusty stuff was gratefully received by both of them but then again they were most displeased that they had missed out on the dungeons and the stocks and the ancient battle uniforms. It should make the next "historical" trip easier.
