Perthshire - Scotland in Microcosm

There are very few areas of Britain that can boast so many picturesque and historic towns and villages within 2,500 square miles of countryside. Auchterarder, Gleneagles, Crieff, Dunkeld, Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy, Kinross, Pitlochry, Blair Atholl and the Fair City of Perth.

Once the Capital of Scotland, Perth, perched on the River Tay, became a major trading port and with the Palace of Scone nearby where all 42 Kings of Scotland were crowned, it was never far away from being the cultural and historic centre of Scotland.

The main artery to Inverness, the A9 runs right through Perthshire and the relatively new stretch around Pitlochry and over the River Garry is absolutely breathtaking, but like most parts of Scotland, it is important to get off these main roads in order to see the “real” Perthshire, all 2,500 square miles of it! Like the multi-varied agricultural and horticultural resources, the splendour of Gleneagles, the recreation areas of St Fillans, Loch Earn, Kenmore, Loch Tay, and Kinloch Rannoch and, of course, the winter ski-ing at Glenshee.

This is rich, prosperous countryside with fine buildings, well kept farms and an overall feeling of wellbeing.. In many respects, Perthshire is the heart and soul of Scotland.
