The Braes of Angus have long been the hiding place of many a Scottish Warrior. Glens like Isla, Prosen, Clova and Esk have offered sanctuary when required to William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, the Marquis of Montrose and Claverhouse (Bonnie Dundee). The ancient county of Angus stretches from the base of Balmoral Forest and Lochnagar to the coast - a drop of well over 3000 ft.
The industrial heritage of the City of Dundee was originally based on textiles, shipbuilding and the jute industry - however, today, advanced technology industries have taken over and the city bustles with students. The city is also likely to be very busy this year when Carnoustie hosts the Open Golf Championship in July.
For the afficionados of Scottish history, the old fishing port of Arbroath is where the famous Declaration was signed in 1320 confirming Scotland's independence from England. Its maritime past is celebrated in local museums. Forfar was the venue of King Malcolm Canmore's first parliament in 1057 and 14th century Glamis Castle was the childhood home of the Queen Mother and birthplace of Princess Margaret.
