Edinburgh and the Lothians

Edinburgh is one of the finest cities of the World. An old town - historic, atmospheric, compact and vibrant - and a neo-classical New Town, obviously planned  - spacious, almost symmetric in places with ample gardens and open spaces. The Old Town probably packs more historic buildings into one square mile than any other city in Britain. Edinburgh Castle, of course, dominates, and is Scotland's most popular visitor attraction.

The Edinburgh known to most people is the Festival Edinburgh and more recently, Hogmanay Edinburgh because this is an international city and now, home, again, to a Scottish Parliament. This is also a cultural city and is strong in the arts which is very appropriate for a city of such architectural grandeur.

The city also sits at the heart of a contrasting area of old industrial towns, fast becoming modern hi tech towns, and rich fertile agricultural land in the east with more than its fair share of excellent golf courses! It is also notable that the grandeur of Edinburgh’s architecture does not stop there - Hopetoun House and Dalmeny House both lie within sight of the Forth Bridges and both give an insight into the style of the people who have used to live here, and to a certain extent, still do!
